Secular AZ works to ensure a secular state government and to educate lawmakers and the public about the importance of secular issues. We advocate on behalf of all individuals who believe that public policy free of religious preference is the best way to ensure freedom of conscience for Arizonans of all faiths and of none.
We also represent the Arizona nontheistic community – a vibrant and growing community of Arizonans who self-identify as atheists, agnostics, humanists, freethinkers, and other labels of personal choosing – to elected officials and government bodies in and from Arizona. We mediate the relationship between the nontheistic community and elected officials, and work to ensure that the law is never biased to the detriment of or against the interests of Arizona's nontheists as required in the Arizona state Constitution.
The Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix (HSGP) is your secular oasis and Humanist community in Phoenix and the surrounding areas. We’re proud to be a charter member of the American Humanist Association. We’re proud to be one of the few openly Humanist groups in the United States with a place to call home.
HSGP is a warm and welcoming community of humanists, atheists, agnostics, freethinkers, and non-theists of all types. The group aims to enrich the lives of any who join us through explorations in science, philosophy, history, and the arts.
American Atheists envisions a world in which public policy is made using the best evidence we have rather than religious dogma and where religious beliefs are no longer seen as an excuse for bigotry or cause to receive special treatment from the government. We fight for religious equality for all Americans by protecting what Thomas Jefferson called the “wall of separation” between state and church created by the First Amendment.
We strive to create an environment where atheism and atheists are accepted as members of our nation’s communities and where casual bigotry against our community is seen as abhorrent and unacceptable. We promote understanding of atheists through education, outreach, and community building and work to end the stigma associated with being an atheist in America.
